At Go Ortho Retainers, we meticulously hand-trim each retainer set to ensure optimal comfort. However, sometimes additional adjustments may be needed for the perfect fit. I recommend trimming and adjusting the problem area on your retainer slightly to improve its fit. You can use cuticle scissors to carefully trim the retainer and a clean, unused nail file to smooth any rough edges (remember to file in one direction only). Feel free to trim as much material as needed, but make sure the entire tooth surface remains covered.

It's common for new retainers to feel somewhat uncomfortable initially, similar to aligners. It typically takes a few days for the teeth to adjust to the new set. We would suggest wearing them consistently for a full week to see if they become more comfortable over time.
